Engine paint. Wiring. Minor coatings (oils, paints, whatever) on stuff that gets hot. After a good number of heat cycles, this stuff stops off-gassing and the smells go away. Break-in "tenderness" is a joke. It's bogus. It's corporate reliability that has to do with keeping a new customer safe on a new machine they are not familiar with. Manufacturers run engines HARD on the assembly line before releasing for sale.
