  1. Words matter, obviously. The importance of being understood by others also matters, because that's the point of communication with words. It is just as much work explaining the dictionary and etymological pronunciation of a word as it is explaining why you don't wish to make such things matter. The result is either English meaning and fundamentals are retained while still being understood by your audience, or you can be understood by your audience while allowing English to degrade. You've exerted just as much effort either way.
