  1. When my grandparents came here from Slovakia, they forbade my mother from speaking Czech. They made such a strong effort to learn all about U.S. custom and language, that they never had a problem fitting into our culture. But even I have a strong sense of pride where I come from. I don't see how assimilation is a negative thing in any way.
