  1. 5:45 Not true! New research shows at least some birds have a VERY good sense of smell. Waterfowl and herons, for example, were noticed always lurking around grass farmer's lots around mowing days to gobble up the free bug buffet that cutting the grass always revealed. So much so that we figured out the compounds that make "cut grass smell", and sprayed it on a field that hadn't been cut. Then they pretended to mow an adjacent field, but just ran the mower without actually cutting anything, and threw some old dried out grass colored green on top to mimic the appearance of freshly cut grass. All the birds went to the old, uncut field with the isolated grass smell put on it. So it's obvious that they were going by smell, not sight or by the sound of the lawnmowers. Isn't that fascinating?

  2. Cheetahs ARE genetically FUBAR, but not for that reason. There was a massive bottleneck in their population about 10,000 years ago, so cheetahs are pretty much all cousins.
