@olavwilhelm6843 It's really not that hard, dude. Ducks are awesome pets and it's much easier and cleaner to keep an indoor duck than it is to have a dog. The only drawback is that it can be kind of a pain finding a proper avian vet who has experience with treating ducks.😊 By the way, they didn't misuse "kudos". They used it in the proper context. So can it already, nobody likes a pedantic snob.

@osric1730 Oh, then I'm sure you won't mind if I sell your pet dog to the nearest Chinese restaurant. Mm, yummy, roast dog!

He's gone. I'm a zoologist and duck rehabilitator, and the odds are very likely he's no longer alive. Just because he could fly doesn't mean he should have been in the wild. He is a domestic duck and is imprinted on humans. He was raised by humans and should not have been in the wild like that. There is no chance he is coming back. He was probably taken by a predator because he had no wild instincts. He could have possibly gotten an infection as well, but predation is more likely.

@louisevanderlinde8590 And that's exactly why he's dead. He's a domestic duck who needed to be cared for by a rehabber or someone who keeps ducks, aka someone who knows what they're doing. This woman made every wrong decision, and he suffered because of it. See him limping towards the end? He has bumblefoot, a very painful but treatable condition. This woman didn't even notice, let alone get him proper care. Dogs are always trying to rush out the door and "into the wild" as well, would you let one go and go "awe, he chose to be free!" No, you'd call that ignorant and dangerous. It's no different with ducks. They are domesticated just like dogs, they cannot fend for themselves. Mick deserved better.

And being made homeless. My heart breaks for her.

@cherylgawne711 Bumblefoot. Mick was walking on concrete a lot because this woman didn't do any proper research on how to care for ducks and never bothered to check his feet. Mick didn't want to be a wild duck, he had his teenage phase that all ducks do but he preferred people to other ducks. He needed proper vet care and a home with someone who could offer him protection. He didn't get that.
5
Poor baby girl, stolen from the wild 😢
4
He didn't "choose", though. All ducks have a teen phase where they want to be away from Mom, but he is a human imprint and could never survive in the wild. The fact that he only lived a year is very sad, because if he'd been given to someone who knows what they're doing, he'd still be alive today.

I have pet houseducks, and I couldn't agree more. Most people just don't understand. These creatures are deeply emotional, and love us just as much as any cat or dog. I'd argue even more so. I'm so sorry for your loss. I know it hurts, but I'm so happy you gave your turkey the best life a gobbleboi could ever hope to have. I wish all turkeys could be so lucky.

@DelightLovesMovies Muscovy ducks do not migrate. He is gone. This woman meant well, but he should have never been released into the wild.

@Equestrian79 Muscovy ducks don't migrate. Mick is dead.

I get frustrated with people who say "it's just a chicken, they can't feel emotion". I'm a zoologist, and I can definitely say that, yes, they can. Waterfowl are especially emotional, swans mate for life and ducks bond strongly to whoever they imprint on. Of course they can feel love.

He's got a pair of wings on his back!
2
I am. I'm afraid of rabbits 😅 They're RUTHLESS, especially the females! These comments aren't exactly helping, either...

@Ghalion666 Leporiphobia.

It's very, very rare to find people who truly understand parrots and know how to properly care for them emotionally and mentally. This sweet couple clearly do!
2
Dumping ducks is the scummiest thing ever. People keep doing this, they think ducklings are nothing but toys. They can't fly, they can't find food, they imprint on you so they think you're their whole world. When you abandon them, they're afraid, alone, and wondering why their mama didn't want them.
2
Hearing Coco in that cage crying for her mama after she was abandoned there, just cuts right down to your soul. Thank goodness she was taken in by a wonderful couple who truly knows how to properly care for large parrots.

That's not how evolution works. Plus it's not a problem that affects the entire population nor does it negatively affect their ability to reproduce, so there's no environmental pressure that would cause an adaptation to occur.

Wow! Roy was a true red betta. That's INCREDIBLY rare.
1
@mehere8038 Right? I have pet call ducks. Call ducks. CALL ducks. I get so many people saying "they're so cute and tiny, I want one! Are they quiet?" 🤦🏼♀️ Look at the name, of course they're not quiet! My Bean loves to sing me the song of her people. And sing the neighbors the song of her people. And everyone in the tri-city area. And the astronauts stationed at the ISS. Wobbles is a boy so he isn't loud like females are, but he quacks constantly. He's an ever present part of the soundscape in my home, lol. It's part of having a birb.
1
Ugh I feel your pain. My house was formerly owned by an old woman who fed raccoons from the back porch. That is a TERRIBLE idea. And sure enough, once I moved in they caused a lot of problems and almost killed my cat.
1
As a waterfowl rescuer, I'm rather annoyed that this lady took these goslings, but won't rescue the dumped adults. :/

0:55 Most wholesome husband ever 💜

He needs a prosthetic beak 😭

It's you! YOU'RE Seamus's owner!!
1
1:00 "He immediately went into my lap....well ok it took him a couple seconds". I love this woman 😂
1
I'm a rehabber too, but I work with birds. Sadly I see a lot of intakes from squirrel attacks. Squirrels hate birds and will destroy them if they can. Does that make me the anti-version of this woman? 😂
1
@JanusHoW Agreed. Parrots are not domesticated and they belong in the wild, but for the captive bred ones, it's our duty to give them the best life possible.
1
Imprinted ducks are the best things in the world. 💜 You will never meet a sweeter, more affectionate animal.
1
She's probably a dumped domestic, poor thing. Hello fellow houseduck mom!
1
I'm not happy that you let the dogs around him freely, that's not good for a bird.
1
It looks like he has a fever coat, but it stayed after he grew up. How did that happen?
1
Dumping waterfowl should be a felony.
1
This is not a happy story. This is very upsetting. This woman has no idea what she's doing, and poor Mick suffered a very painful, short life because of it.
1
Carolina waterfowl! I know her!

This is my Wobbles!

Call ducks and muscovies are the only domestic ducks week can fly. That doesn't mean they can live in the wild. IF they survive, they crossbreed with wild ducks which is a big problem. Case in point, he likely got predated on. He didn't "just fly away", he's a human imprint. This is why he was unreleasable.
1
I'm a zoologist and fellow rehabber. It's true, squirrels are absolute jerks and complete divas 😂 A word of caution though, in the wild squirrels are highly aggressive and territorial. They will destroy any birds they find, including eggs, nests, babies, even hummingbirds who are in torpor and can't fly away. So if you are trying to attract birds to your yard, please do your best to make them squirrel proof, otherwise you'll be inviting squirrels in which will drive away birds from the food source.

She'd still be alive if you let her inside with you like she clearly wanted to be.

2:40 "People think more about themselves than they do their animals". YUUUUUP. That definitely tracks with most dog owners I've seen. Don't train their dog, don't discipline the dog or provide the structure it needs, don't walk the dog, buy high energy breeds and keep them in an apartment, buy pugs and bulldogs who can't even breed or birth naturally and can't breathe, etc. And don't get me started on exotic pets.

I love that the hen is named Susan.
