I really do wonder who the first person was that figured out the only way to make these hard, bitter, toxic fruits taste good and not kill you is to subject it to this long, multi-step process.

@ahobbit1273 No one's "torturing" anyone. That's how it is in wildlife rescue, sometimes they make it, sometimes they don't. The type of mange they had was EXTREMELY severe, and is even known to be deadly; not from the mite itself, but because the intensive damage it does to the skin opens it up to widespread infection. And since those babies were orphaned, they just didn't have the antibodies from their mom's milk to fight off those infections.

Gabriel Afonso Right?? I only found out cuz as a kid we had an olive tree, and my mom was always soaking large batches of olives for ourselves and the neighbors. They were delicious! But I recall when she first got started, the kitchen smelled REALLY bad when they first went into the turpentine bath. We moved the tubs to the garage after that. 😂

@Sofokleousma It happens all the time, sadly. When you introduce a species into a new environment where it has no natural predators, it can be devastating. :/

@lesterclaypool1 Actually, the ventral and anal fins have them, too. What basis are you going off of? My source is the marine biology book I've got in my hands right now. And as a bonus, I can spell and use proper sentence syntax, oh joy! Look...if you're going to try and sound smart, 1) know your stuff before making an ass of yourself, and 2) at least have the decency not to make an abortion out of the english language.
