So then that means they definitely were interred by the US government, as they were Japanese-American. Oh dear. 😞

I'd probably throw a napkin or something equally useless, then just stare at it as it fluttered harmlessly to the ground.

Same reason why I laugh at anyone who says "if I had been there, I'd have done something!" LOL no, no you wouldn't, mate.

@wt5284 Eh, frankly I find it utterly ridiculous that they were expected to not only keep playing the national anthem, but hoist the flag before tending to themselves or taking any action to defend the base. It's just jingoistic absurdity, really. They shouldn't be praised for that, they should be called out for their deeply skewed priorities.

@ladycheyne5607 Yuuuuuuuup. That and the flag thing is just.... 🙄

@drrocketman7794 That second story is amazing. I hope the guy who was forced to make the artillery never got caught! I wonder if he knew just how many lives he saved in his act of defiance.

@nicholasschroeder3678 It's a bit hard to take your comment seriously when it's dripping with so much prejudice as yours is. Holy cow. You didn't have your family's skin melted off by nuclear fallout. The US dropping the bombs was like using an Uzi to kill a wasp.

Or a complete idiot. You decide!

Seeing the oil dripping to the surface was a somber moment for me. The monument is nothing but a simple white covered bridge with a platform where you can watch the oil bubbling up from below, even now all that decades later, and feel the magnitude of knowing that you're standing atop the bodies of the men still down there. It's a very emotional experience. I wish everyone could experience all war memorials like that, if we did, maybe the world wouldn't be so heIIish.

I don't understand your purpose in mentioning the nuclear bombings. It looks as if you're listing then gleefully as some sort of well-deserved retribution.

Probably instinctual. You'd be amazed at the things we do without thinking. Plus there had to be a good amount of mental distancing involved. You'd have to, in order to do something like that. You're trained not to see the enemy as people, only things to defeat.

@Preservestlandry In hindsight, not the best way of going about that strategy, is it? Sad thing is, had they simply offered money to the US government instead, they might have agreed to stay out of the war entirely.

Jar of mayonnaise: "MY MOMENT HAS ARRIVED"

It's almost absurdly coincidental that the orchestra was playing the national anthem when the bombers began carpeting, and equally so that they allegedly didn't run for cover until they'd finished playing it in its entirety. Not gonna lie, that sounds like straight up jingoistic propaganda, it's so bizarre.
