@msl758 I'm a biologist, and yes, it can. Typically it occurs when the patient has it in their genes, but they can go their whole life without it manifesting until they experience a huge stressor, and being put through something like what OP suffered absolutely can trigger MS symptoms, even if they've never experienced it before. Now, whether or not stress alone can CAUSE MS is still iffy, there's evidence to support it, but also evidence debunking it. So the jury's still out on that one. But it's certainly possible, and in my opinion I think OP had it in them but the disease wouldn't have manifested if not for what their mother did to them.

This is why I feel nothing for Gypsy Rose Blanchard's mother. As far as I'm concerned, GRB did the world a favor. It's a shame this poor girl didn't have a savior from her monster of an egg donor.
