I'm a biologist. The ice diet is one of those things that makes sense to a layperson, but to people like me it's facepalm-worthy. I guess cold fusion was the same way. ....Ok no I'm not over this, I gotta vent. They published a PAPER on it! It was in the Annals of Internal Medicine, one of the most esteemed medical journals in the world! How did they not catch this?! You can't just eat ice and expect to lower your body temperature for weight loss, if it was THAT easy to significantly lower our body temperature or go into caloric deficit we wouldn't be able to maintain homeostasis or hold onto enough calories to survive anything other than ideal conditions. To make any difference you'd have to eat so much ice you'd go into hyponatremia, and even then you wouldn't lose weight because your metabolism would slow significantly to conserve energy! I just...I think I need to lie down.

I'm a zoologist, but it's for that reason I also have an extensive understanding of ecology. And, we're not doing so well, guys. The earth is teetering on the edge of the abyss, and humans are trying to push it over. We will not be able to come back from this. Seeing videos like this just makes me upset. People are happy to doom the earth, the only known life sustaining planet in the universe, just for something as meaningless as money. Yes, I know this wasn't legit, but we could end our reliance on fossil fuel if we wanted. But it's never going to happen.

@madeliner1682 I love that our species has such odd rituals that we make noise to show our approval, and that approval comes out as "woo"

@Jaydee8652 And that's the problem with most science these days. Nepotism and politics are the status quo, not the science itself. Getting any journal to retract a fraudulent paper is an uphill battle because they place their reputation over their integrity. For example, there has been a recent scandal where a whole host of fraudulent papers from India have been uncovered to have fabricated data, it's like the Frederick Shön scandal × 100. Yet all of the reputable journals that published those papers still have them up, they have not retracted a single one despite numerous calls to do so and even the researchers themselves admitting they're bunk (despite of course blaming everyone except themselves). Don't trust any research from India, at least not for the time being.

@MirzaAhmed89 That's why. It's churned out, low effort content, perfect for the lowest common denominator to make themselves feel like they're smart even though they have room temperature IQs.

@PointsofData I hate to tell this to you but if you think it's "good content", that's a bit of a self report.
