Y'all don't notice that in the panning shot where the camera peers around the corner, the shoe isn't balanced. Everything you see isn't what actually happened, it's just what Jupe remembers happening.

I don't know if I'd go that far. He went back for the poor girl after he'd seemed to calm down. Same with the "dad".

He probably was going to when he got murked. Remember, this scene is not showing us what happened, it's showing us what Jupe REMEMBERS happening. The shoe that's balanced isn't there in the panning shot, you only see a glimpse of it but it's leaning against the sofa.

Thanks for saying "main threat" and not "main villain". Jean Jacket isn't evil, it's just an animal.

@maefromnitw I think it was a bit of both. In the wild, yes, that's exactly how these primates work. But in the language of film, I think the implication is that Jupiter just got lucky and Gordy's rage subsided before he noticed where Jupe was hiding.

Jupe mistreated Jean Jacket, just like the show producers mistreated Gordy. JJ was a wild animal that Jupe thought he could control and exploit for fame and money. He fed JJ until he had the animal Pavlov'd into showing up at a specific time, but JJ had been tricked into eating a fake horse that injured it, so it was angry. It's a tale about humanity exploiting wild animals who have no business messing with nature.

@beanieb0b Really? It's pretty intentional. The entire movie is like that. Jean Jacket is a wild animal, just like Gordy. And likewise it isn't evil, it's just reacting to a perceived threat.

@Castie11 Terrifying thing is, that's normal behavior for them. Adult males maim each other and take their digits off because that's a more painful fate than just murking each other.

@cactusthecactus I'm a wildlife biologist. Only two animals truly scare me: rats, and chimpanzees. Sharks, crocodiles, lions, nope. But rats and chimps, once you know what their true nature is like, will haunt you. The thing Gordy does here? That's normal to them. Males do this to each other all the time.
