  1. Not an engineer but a marine zoologist. Although I don't know much about carbon fiber, I know plenty about oceanography. I understand how tension vs shear force works, as well as direct vs compressional stress. The ocean is nothing BUT compressional stress, the kind carbon fiber is terrible at resisting.
