  1. Factory farms are the worst. Please, please try to eat small and local. The keyword is SMALL. The overwhelming majority of family run, small local farms, you can see the animals out in the sunshine, eating grass and being happy. They welcome visitors, they don't try to hide things like the factory farms do. You especially want to look for ones that dispatch the animals themselves, or allow you to do it yourself so you really get to gain the respect for the lives that go into your deli sandwich. DO YOUR HOMEWORK. Yes it can be more expensive, it has to be, and you'll have to be smarter about it, but it's worth it. You're not only supporting the small farmers getting screwed by the large corporations that run these factory nightmares, you're getting better quality food that's going to ultimately be better for your health.
