Mice are not a good example here, as rodents are not meant to last long at all. Their bodies are quite poorly made. For example, their skeletons are not very structurally efficient; their eye sockets are barely holding their eyes in their head, hence why exophthalmos is so common in rodents. Their organ function is also not optimal, they tend to have weak hearts, and many rodent species don't even have fully formed bladders. Rodents primarily exist for one reason and one reason only: to be eaten. So why bother evolving to have sturdy bodies when your life expectancy is less than 6 months? Hence, why they develop cancer so frequently. There is no point in having these "tumor blockers" because they simply do not need them, because they typically get eaten long before any of that would become an issue.
