  1. It's rather telling that, even in most of our science fiction space travel stories, we still are unable to leave the Milky Way. Star Trek, Star Wars, Mass Effect, Battlestar Galactica, Hitchhiker's Guide, even Dune, are all confined to a single galaxy. It always frustrated me, even though as a scientist, I'm well aware of just how impossible and vast it is. Still, we are one of trillions of known galaxies, countless more undiscovered....why haven't we tried to imagine what could be out there?
