  2. Who cares if there's no fire? For all this guy knows, a marine species could evolve perfectly well without fire. Dolphins and octopi are remarkably smart, and cetaceans do, arguably, have some form of rudimentary society. They could live on a superhot planet where fire is inconsequential. Problem solving creates intelligence, not "technology".

  6. I Love Purple Hazmats See, you're thinking in human terms. We have NO idea what's out there or what environment any ET would live in. Perhaps it's a superhot planet where metals would simply melt. So they'd use silicone or other means. Or  underwater, where they could use salt to create an electrical charge. I'm just saying, this guy's thinking in very narrow terms.

  7. Tuna Well, what about deep sea vents? What about utilizing corals and stones to build other items like knives, prying sticks, musical instruments, even weapons? Sand is a wonderful abrasive, you could easily fashion tools simply by shaving the material down to its proper shape.

  8. Part of the problem is the U.N. itself. They gave five of the world's most powerful (and corrupt) nations with full veto powers, which all have wildly different views and agendas. We need a better system. A system that is truly democratic and not run by 5 goddamn megalomaniacs.

  14. TheSpazModic  I have literally never heard any of my non-American friends say that about U.S. citizens. Ever. I have, however, witnessed with  my own eyes countless tourists in foreign countries scream at people for not speaking English or not accepting american currency.

  19. George LFC Cows are a big part of it but the #1 factor in CO2 emissions are coal-burning factories, which are used heavily in places like China, India and even here in the U.S. But everything adds up; shit, even googling something causes carbon emissions! How's that for freaky?

  23. Not buying it. If you looked at a human brain as you would a computer chip then yeah, it's a lousy processor. What tech company would build a new processor on top of an old one? It makes more sense to build anew with current technologies and materials. But we aren't made of silicone. We aren't products of ingenuity but evolution, and evolution has made us intelligent by building our brains on top of our more primitive, vestigial ones. So in that simple sense your argument is rather silly.
