  1. Let's assume that this war ends at some point or at least has a serious cease-fire like that in Korea so that fighting stops. Let's also assume the worst in that Russia does not have to stop fighting because of military losses or bankruptcy and that at the time of the cease-fire Russia still occupies a significant amount of territory in southern and eastern Ukraine. That would be bad because with Russia occupying Crimea and much of southern Ukraine Kherson city and Odessa would always be at great risk if Russia launched another unprovoked invasion of Ukraine. However on the other side of things not only would peace give Ukrainians a chance to rebuild their country and to build up a large air force (as western countries will be more willing to send fighter jets to Ukraine if it is not actively fighting against Russian forces) but also this would hopefully provide a chance for Ukraine to join NATO and for NATO to set up bases in places such as Odessa, Kherson, Kiev and Kharkiv. I'm thinking that that would end any Russian thoughts of attacking Ukraine again.
