  8. Skyswindler The only people that cherry-pick the Bible are atheists, Christians simply understand what it means. Equality in spiritual terms means of everyone is capable of knowing God, therefore all life is sacred and none should be prevented from frely choosing his own path in life. Tolerance in spiritual terms means that everyone, no matter what they have done, are capable of being reformed and therefore forgiven. We don't stone you to death for making a mistake, because making mistakes in part of human nature, something which Christianity tries to reform back to it's original state of innocence.

  9. Skyswindler No, Islam doesn't allow you to make mistakes, if you make a mistake within islam, they are judge, jury, and executioner. Christians leave judgement and punishment to God and God alone.

Christians that want to kill gays have failed to "love thy neighbour", one of the greatest commandments. Jesus came to fulfill the law, i.e: Put it into context, and by fulfilling the law, it changed.

  16. Skyswindler You have to interpret the Bible the way in which is was intended to be read. Many parts only make sense when read as allegory. For example, The Book of Jonah is a classic spiritual allegory, there was no man named Jonah, and he was never swallowed by a whale and spat out after three days. The entire story is explaining what happens to someone when going through a spiritual conversion, an internal change within their heart. Only people who have experienced it can fully interpret such a text. "So just about anyone can make it say anything" This is why the Catholic church made Thomas Aquinas (A Philosopher and Theologian) their "doctor of the church", the Catholic church believes in tradition as a means of interpreting the Bible so that no one except the most knowledgable and wise can interpret it. Unfortunately, Protestants do not have the same teaching, they usually interpret the Bible almost entirely literal and based upon their own interpretation, hence why the Catholic church always opposed the reformation. "Tell me, was it right or wrong?" Everything must be placed within historical context, it's very easy for you as a modern reader living in a modern comfortable civilisation to judge ancient people. Did God order them to kill all those people? Maybe, maybe not, we only have the authors word to go by.

  17. Wamuu - Divine sandstorm But you don't believe in God, therefore all those evils you listed were either done by men or caused by natural disaster, and you still hold this world up as a god? This proves that human nature is flawed and that we are in need of salvation. The Jew-God was largely misunderstood by the Jews, hence the words and actions of Christ. He came to give understanding, he came to make clear what was once clouded, and he came to show that God is love, not hate.

Tell that to all the women who have had an abortion. Even today people are justifying the most disgusting acts of evil. "Its just evil" What is evil? For anything to be evil you must have a standard of goodness. Without God (the ultimate good), evil is just something you happen to dislike, but that others may enjoy. If you care so much about the murder of children, then i hope you campaign against abortion, otherwise you'd be inconsistent with your own morality. "context" Example - A man brutally stabbed another man and he died, is he guilty of murder? You would say yes, but when i add further information......A man brutally stabbed another man and he died, after trying to rape and murder his daughter in their family home.....Is he now a cold-blooded killer? Context is everything.
