I'm a Catholic but i respect these people. Nature is something to be respected and worked with, not disrespected and exploited.

@Nietzsche's Ghost, "Humans spend money, time, and other resources in performing meaningless rituals" This is very autistic. You're forgetting the human need for meaning. If people don't use it for spiritual superstition they'd be spending it on something even less meaningful. Religion gets people to self-examine and reflect, this is a good thing for both the individual and society. People waste their entire lives watching football without any benefit to their lives or society. The idea that getting rid of religion would improve the human race shows a major lack of understanding of human nature. Churches provide an emotional need. A priest sacrifices his own life to serve the community, he will help anyone who comes to him without asking for money in return, which is unique in this day and age.

Andrew Todd, I meant priests sacrifice a normal family life, they do get a salary but they are never 'off-duty'. Ever wondered why billions of people enjoy hollywood movies and read fiction? It seems humanity does need 'fairy tales' to give their lives some kind of meaning and hope. Religion merely turns those fictional stories into real world action. The reason for the success of the Lord of the Rings is because Tolkien fused together the great myths of European paganism and Christianity.

Andrew Todd, They get time off from official duties, but a priest will not turn anyone away in need at any time. The difference between the priest and the doctor, is that the doctor probably has a family and other duties to perform, whereas the priest is made seperate for the sole purpose of being a sheperd.

Andrew Todd, I never said religion has a monopoly on being good, my argument is simply that not having a family provides people with more time to dedicate to other. This puts the priest in a unique position, but anyone who is single and dedicated can be just as good, however Jesus explicitly command his priests to give their time even when it's inconvenient to them. And when i talk about people in need, i mean emotional need. How many people are willing to sit down for five hours with someone on the verge of a mental breakdown? Very few could or would be willing to do it.

Nietzsche's Ghost, The huge success of Lord of the Rings and Star Wars is largely due to it's religious undertones. Both are a fusion pagan and Christian mythological stories. Many people take their obsession with these movies to the extreme, they do so because they know there is an underlying truth about the 'heroes journey', where an individual overcomes himself and the world to reach sainthood. There's nothing wrong with this of course, but the difference is that religion make it an obligation to become the hero, to overcome yourself and the world, and become a real saint.

Geth Creator, Yes, but we shouldn't rape the earth like we're currently doing. Using nature to our advantage is fine, but we must work in harmony with nature.

It's stop people exploiting nature, that one reason why it's positive.
