Comments by "AWResistance" (@AlanWattResistance) on "How video games helped me come to terms with depression - BBC News" video.
I know people who play video games and they haven't accomplished anything in life for the past 25 years. At best it's a distraction from the harsh reality of life, but it doesn't help you become a better person.

So you mask the problem instead of solving it?

Video games give a false sense of accomplishment. It acts like a drug, you feel better but you're actually not.

@SayberV1 Good for them, but money doesn't always bring happiness or direction in life.
3
Video games makes people feel like winners, while the banks and government screw them over.

Why should it matter? Do you feel insecure about wasting so much time playing games?

Follow the howl Why are you so offended? Do you feel insecure about the amount of time you waste playing games?
2
Follow the howl I'm not disappointed, I just don't want people to waste 20+ years playing games and then realise they have absolutely nothing tangible to show for it. Games should be played for fun, not a distraction from life itself.

@AnonEyeMouse No mate. The truest reality. The ulitmate philosophy. The way, the truth and the life. "Who is forced to struggle more than he who tries to master himself?" Know thyself, is the only game worth playing.
2
@AnonEyeMouse It may help some people, but for others they use it as an excuse to never leave the house and face their demons. I know people who have wasted 20+ years of their life sat in front of a screen with nothing tangible to shwo for it.

@AnonEyeMouse I'm also against corporate slavery and the obsession with sport. It's all a distraction. If games become an addiction, then it ceases to be helpful and becomes another burden to overcome. Games should never be a substitute for living a good life.

But it's not always good. If someone uses video games as a diversion, then you're not really solving the problem.

@markdowse3572 It's not an either-or scenario.

@SerenityM54L2SAM5L5N1 Well said.

@AnonEyeMouse To reach the next level in life you need to face the final boss, which is yourself. Turn to Jesus my friend, let him be your guide through this ultimate game.

@robotikk4391 No mate. Entertainment is great, but not when you use it to mask deep inner problems. You can turn to Jesus and still play video games, but video games must never become an addiction or an excuse to avoid sorting your life out.

Your mum is right. I know people who have wasted 20+ years playing games and have little to show for it.

@monsieurpoisson8163 Good for them, but life is more than just money.
1
@monsieurpoisson8163 It is, but many rich people are miserable and some even commit suicide. Money is a means to an end, not the end itself.
