What if my 'well-being' derives from stealing your car? Most religious people do good because good has been done to them. They have compassion because God gave them compassion, when they didn't deserve it. Most are not motivated by reward and punishment, that's your own misconception. But of course some do, just like some atheists use their lack of belief in God as an excuse to go wild. And we don't appeal to the Bible exclusively for morality. Ethics is a philosophical issue, and Christians have always studied philosophy. We believe you can attain an understanding of God and morality through self-knowledge and reason.
