Never lock yourself into a single supplier. Strategy for noobz.

She had a really sophisticated take actually, but quite ahead of her time, so was not broadly accepted. The idea of using nuclear as a hedge against fossil fuels, was strategic, to keep fossil fuel costs low on the basis, there was always the nuclear option in the background.

It makes no sense that everyone should roll over and accept TSMC as having monopoly of semi manufacture. Competition is vital for pushing technology forward. Monopoly just leads to stagnating tech and increasing prices.

Nuclear and cutting costs, do not mix very well.

@mlai2546 That's my point! You always want to keep suppliers on your side, in case you need them. Do you think Samsung would just drop everything they were working on, to make chips for Apple? Supplier relations are as important as employee relations. If your product depends on one supplier, they can and will hold you to ransom. Thus TSMC make more money than God.

Me: I have no idea why China would want to own and control Taiwan and TSMC. Also me: I am stupid. I am stupid.

France is economically tied to the Euro though so not sure I would hold up France as a shining example of being commercially viable. Britain, may have no clue as you say, but the one thing it is, is commercially viable.

In order to pay the younger generation, the government needs to issue bonds (print money), to both keep talent, and stimulate the economy. The bond holders will then finance the growth of the country.

@mlai2546 that's funny, because if anything happened to TSMC, Apple would not be able to make phones.

@hyena8385 That's a peculiar statement, the UK, was one of the first modern corporations, basically a company that stayed on top through constant reinvestment and pushed or enabled human technology. The monarchy, were the financiers (investors) of that. The UK was essentially the first tech incubator (before that was even a thing), so I presume the ppl who run TSMC and their children will simply "sit on their arse" and inherit half of Taiwan.

@hyena8385 No system has natural dominance. Land rent extraction is a monopoly which requires constant innovation (laws) and maintenance (police/law enforcement) or it will fail. A monopoly in chips is like a land rent in silicon, which is prime real estate. If there was enough political interest, those leasehold laws could be overturned.

@kevinavila9489 ...that wasn't my point.

You make it sound like Crypto just comes into existence through mining. Like, there is nobody actually creating it, but there is.

If nuclear was a " no brainer", simple and obvious, then everybody would use it for everything, but they don't.

@gabrieldarcy1744 it's not accidents, it's waste and how we guarantee the waste does not get sold to private waste disposal who just dump it in landfill or at sea and contaminate the food and water supply.
