  1. very simplistic minded, who do you think will buy up the land once farmers have to liquidate to pay tax? right, so multinationals will buy the land, put solar or industrial grain, or just turn it into concrete, oh and you will have to import all your food, meat, dairy, veg, that you would have otherwise produced, precisely when you need food independence ahead of geo-pol conflicts, tarifs and blockades etc. total short sighted strategic blunder, over an amount that a big bank loses behind the sofa.

  8. ALL the ppl who "bought the land to avoid inheritance tax" will simply gift the asset to family members ahead of time. In other words, it will not catch ppl who can and will game the system, it will ONLY capture descent working farms with legacy and heritage, oh, i dont know, the exact type that you want to keep. Because over time this willl capture all of them

  9. they know that whatever threshold they set today, will capture more in future as inflation roars up. NEVER let them steal the land. A farm 10 years ago, would have been worth less than £1M, could be worth £3M but assets tied up, and no cashflow. GO after companies that are cash rich, like banks, £520 Million is short change, I am sure they have post-modern lobby art worth more that that.

  11. Think about this, Farmers are not killing themselves out of despair, necessarily, it is kamikaze strategy TO PROTECT their family. They are not squirmish about killing, they deal with death daily. They are not afraid to die. They are the effing HARDEST and hardiest ppl in the country, rugged, self sufficient individuals. Now think about this when you go and prod the hornets nest.
