With regard to nuclear waste, the scenario that concerns me is: contractor bids for waste disposal, obviously goes to the lowest price contractor, the company who contains the waste goes out of business in say 100 years and nobody knows where the waste is dumped....you've still got the problem of waste, but nobody is responsible for it. The political landscape is completely different and they claim no responsibility since they did not dump or store the waste and they do not "believe" in nuclear. To cut a long story short, the problem with nuclear is people, not the tech.

  8. What is wasted on a lot of electric car advocates, is that for many, an electric car is not economically viable. Not everyone can afford to fly the flag of virtue. We have had electric heaters for decades, but still most ppl have gas stove and central heating. Why? economics.

  13.  @nickh5081  Most electricity is classified as "dirty" so if you charge an electric car from the power grid, YOU are part of the problem.

  14.  @nickh5081  If you consume power from a power grid, it will not necessarily comes from your local power plant. Regarding hydro, it's not technically dirty but depends on how much the aquatic life is disrupted, then nuclear, well that's clean until it's not, as we know. It requires a stable political environment into perpetuity to ensure waste is handled properly. The problem is, when a plant is decommissioned, nobody wants to deal with the waste, so it can end up anywhere. If you think that is cynical, then either I am cynical or you are naive, but I do try to transcend cynicism when I can.

  28.  @dy7296  The established car makers, Porsche, Toyota, etc. have an established customer base and a range of cars from electric, to hybrid, to combustion, so they know what customers want, and they tailor their range to suit that demand.

  30. It is quite clear from reading the comments, that most ppl are clueless with regard to electric cars and the reason why we do not all have one. When electric cars are proven to be a better alternative to combustion cars, ppl will buy them. It is that simple.

  31. I speak to young engineers who think the idea of electric vehicles is new, and that we should get on and make everything electric, as if it is that simple. Thank you for your work. We still use wood burning fires and gas stoves in the household, why? energy density and economics. Gas cars are here for many decades to come. There simply is not enough precious metal for everyone to have the energy density from batteries that they want, need and expect.

This is way off mainstream adoption. 5 min charging and 300 mile range for less than a petrol or diesel car, and I may consider electric. Also, need to be charging at every service station. We are way off.

  35. The forced induction is mostly about efficiency and strategy, than big boost and power. The regs will simply cap the power, at whatever they all can agree is sensible.

  39. I think having a pressurised fuel tank is cheating. If you ran that pressure in your normal fuel system you would get more efficiency, due to better combustion.

  41. Which is why if you are going to drive "flat out", you are better off with petrol (gasoline) spark ignition engine. But, if you are only going to be driving at part throttle, you are better off with diesel or compression ignition.
