Neo had to talk to the machine god and hook back in the matrix to fight agent Smith but it wasn't until agent Smith tried to assimilate with Neo connected to the matrix did it reset..... That's y he says that's not fair I won... While interrogating morphius he disconnected his earpiece which is an agents connection to the matrix, while doing so said he could smell n taste his sweat..... After merging with Neo he escaped the matrix being able to bend the laws by crossing into zion [the matrix for those that naturally will reject the matrix] and the known matrix. Zion was a backup program for the rebellious..... The man in white with all the tv's explains this and us why he tells the oracle you played a very dangerous game.... She was betting on the one born of the matrix or agent Smith, who calls her mother to merge back with the matrix and create a reset so they would not need a zion anymore because everyone could accept the 7th reset and peace exist long term.....
