Nah, leave the tug alone. Otherwise the carrier wouldn't make it back to continue being a hindrance.

@jeroboam4486 if they could get the chance to. Some are doing their level best to sink themselves by cracking.

I don't know if it's luck or just some oddity in metallurgy, but it seems that every ship built in Ukraine that gets involved in attacking Ukraine suddenly becomes incredibly flammable. I wonder if it has anything to do with patches of the aluminum being made of torpex...

He didn't give a cut to those upstairs. What's the old joke? Yes, that dacha in the woods is expensive, so the government helped him save on the costs. There's plenty of woods in Siberia.

My uncle was a merchant marine and avid small boat owner. He had a plaque that read, "A boat is a hole in the water, surrounded by wood, into which you pour money". Aircraft carriers aren't wood, but they are a deep hole in the water to throw money into. I've heard that the Ukrainian builders failed to tell the Russians that the burners were supposed to be fed bunker oil, but did facilitate deliveries of coal. ;)

Well, the problem is a bit older than that. Corruption was a big thing in Soviet Russia as well. Think middle management and up. That was the biggest millstone around their economic necks.

Not so much a fleet as a series of crews. Otherwise they'd be unable to retain skilled crews. Now, all senior officers themselves...

When the Soviet Union collapsed, Russia only spent money on their strategic rocket forces, maintaining their nuclear deterrent. Everything else basically fell apart due to neglect and no budget.

@krashd one hole in that theory is, China's new carrier is the Kuznetsov's sister ship, purchased incomplete via a shell game, she was finished in China. Or at least alleged to be finished. Hard to be sure, but I do recall their homebrewed Han submarine was the only submarine in history to need its sonar operator to wear hearing protection.

No, moderate at recovering aircraft, good at refueling what little that they recover and getting towed home. As for ordinance, would you be insane enough to put ordinance on that firetrap?

@Leo-yr5jb the carrier was sold for other usage, which was really a shell game to get it to China. Had to laugh, given how transparent the entire thing was, but it worked and they got the hull and completed the carrier. Now, to see how well or if they fixed deficits and modernized anything in the design. I am willing to bet that it won't smoke like it's afire though.

@No-timeforimbeciles you forgot the three commanders... Curly, Larry and Moe.
