@EuriEuropa we've well established that comets speed up when venting and that they're made of rock, so you've lost your first point. If space aliens could travel interstellar distances, they'd most certainly steer free of this planet full of assholes. Finally, I fear nothing that does not exist, due to its inability to threaten, due to its lack of existence.

@Rated Are true, we've two probes that are just leaving our solar system, but those are mostly aluminum. What passed through our solar system was rock.

@Alex_Mitchell subsequent reports did, after a full analysis of all imagery.

@ArchFundy well, the Ramans do everything in threes. ;) Yeah, it's a rogue rock.

@Alex_Mitchell Rendezvous with Rama, "Ramans do everything in threes".

@aydenwebb6223 what an odd statement, as it'll be 20000 years before it's outside of this star system!
3
@GeneralZap odd, as vapor was observed venting from the object. There were also observed velocity changes that match nothing possible without emission of mass of some form.

And who could forget "The Seaview Shuffle", with the cast staggering around the room pretending that the giant submarine was being tossed about. And the flying sub.

For the same reason we can't see our lunar landing sites from earth, the telescope would have to be far larger than can be supported on earth. It's far smaller than a planet, let alone a star, so it's really hard to get a good view of it.

Nah, it was Rama.

Well, if you're worried about something that might happen in hundreds of years and has happened repeatedly without mass extinctions, you really need to be speaking with a mental health care professional.

Had different actors for the movie version.

@Alex_Mitchell Arthur Clarke said that, long ago. Do become literate!

Why would it be smooth and tapered? It's traveling in the hard vacuum of space, where shape doesn't matter. Oh, no clue where you got the notion as to radio signals, as rocks don't use radio.

Likely, he doesn't know that nuclear torpedoes were a thing for a fair stretch of time. Or that hypersonic missile warheads is an old hat thing, after all, suborbital ICBM and SLBM warheads come cooking in around Mach 10 - 20, depending upon course and target protections.

@daviddion3731 or for that matter, JFK's rendition of the word.
