@rileycoyote8275 which was shut down and given to the University of Alaska well over a decade ago. And to the other idiocy, nobody's detonated a nuke since the '90's and that was underground. So, you're trying to tell us a state university is trying to destroy a US state because of hand wave. There are doctors that can help you, you know.

I'd be heading west, as north is totally fouled up right now and dealing with a major disaster. Alabama looks to be reasonably safe. Fortunately, I'll not have to worry about making such a walk, as I'm in Pennsylvania and we're already sending Guard troops south. Again. Just as the folks down south sent troops to help us out the few major disasters that we had.

Hurricanes are big, boats have both limited range and speed, making it beyond difficult to get clear of an immense hurricane in time. There's a chance they might get clear earlier today, but gaining the kind of distance to be safe at sea with a hurricane even a couple of hundred miles away chopping the waters isn't very good and growing lower and lower in chance. At least, not in a small pleasure craft and definitely not in a house boat. Maybe a cruiser yacht with a damned good sea anchor system.

More like someone's batshit crazy. I can say that I'm the Grand Leader of the Space Aliens, doesn't mean I'm from outer space or an alien.
2
@jamesr.9852 why, it's almost as if all of the words in a sentence actually mean something. Who'da thunk it? If you need one, I've an entire pallet of sarcasometers here. ;)

@HawksDiesel totally applicable, given he isn't NYPD.
1
@brandexample1776 yep, totally, he was bipedal.

@ian.swift.31614 only way too many RPG's. A couple of ribs still bother me some mornings from fragments shifting the ESAPI plates enough to break some ribs. But, what's the relevance to a NYC cop or someone faking that ridiculously far from NYPD's jurisdiction? Dude might as well waved around a papal badge and gun for all the authority it didn't authorize him.

Not in pleasure craft though, MV's and naval warships, yes, not in gigs though. That'd be the recipe for doggie paddling for a long, long time. On shore, they've already had a super soaking from the previous hurricane, so the soil isn't going to absorb much more, add in the category and 10 - 15 foot anticipated storm surge, this is going to be the worst kind of a disaster. A disaster on top of a disaster.

Ironically, Alabama looks to be a safe bet.

Yeah, more like someone that's batshit crazy.
1
Totally, because NYPD has jurisdiction everywhere, even on Pluto. Unlike commie nations, cities have jurisdiction only within their boundaries, the same true of counties, the same true of states and we don't have a strong central government. You should learn a bit more about the United States of America before you comment on its government.

Jesus was hired by the DOJ? Funny, wasn't in my staff briefing upstairs!
1
Not a lot of easily reachable rocks in that area of Florida, so maybe we should listen to the National Weather Service about evacuation, rather than the Jesus character construction service. Because, your minister should've made it clear to you, he wasn't speaking about building construction, but about building one's character based upon scriptural guidance and faith.
1
Erm, huh? The DoD doesn't protect the POTUS beyond a ceremonial Marine guard. That's the job of the Secret Service. Just what planet are you from?

Some think that they've toughed it out before, it'll be OK. Others, bad things happen to other people. Then, others can't afford to or want to protect their belongings against possible looters. At least, that's what they told us when we asked them when responding to their disaster. Personally, having responded to these types of emergencies, well, I'm a fairly sturdy fella, but water's a hell of a lot stronger than me and wind blown water will trivially bowl me under and drown me, I'd get clear even if I had to go on foot.
1
Well, it would only be a flesh wound in his case.

@hollyp4579 I remember back in the 1960's, they would intentionally sink boats to protect them from hurricanes. No clue how they protected the engines.
1
God helps those who help themselves, not blindly awaiting a disaster they were warned about. Oh well, regardless, they're countrymen, they'll get help from all. Well, the survivors will. I'm probably gonna be having nightmares about Katrina again. :(

If the boat is well enough secured, it might be damaged, but not destroyed. But, we're talking four corner tied down tightly and protected from the incoming 10 - 15 foot storm surge and I'm thinking we'd need Harry Potter's wand to keep the boat from flooding and sinking. Or do like was done in the 1960's, which I'm not sure modern boats can withstand, sink it until the storm is passed. Yeah, ironic, sink the boat to keep it from sinking via destructive means. No idea how they protected the motor and the electronics would have to be removed, assuming that the hull of a modern boat would survive being immersed.

@mikieanthony777 had, eventually I'll just get a skiff to paddle for what little fishing that I do.
