  1. I totally relate. My van has about 340K miles on it and it had been down on power for a while, so this summer I had the engine replaced. I knew it would take about a week, so I spent several months beforehand lining things up so I'd have a place to stay and alternate transportation. And I had been saving up for this eventual repair. But we vehicle dwellers usually don't have the luxury of advanced planning. Things break unexpectedly. I chose the shop for the engine replacement because they're a NAPA affiliate and they warrantee parts and labor for three years, and the warranty is honored by all other NAPA affiliates around the country.
