  12.  @Josuetoday  The official status of PR is commonwealth territory of the US. Technically, Americans don't live in PR to colonize so its not a colony. PR has an option to either secede or elevate to statehood. There have been no consensus among Puerto Ricans in the many past referendums.

  13.  @Josuetoday  The word colony is just a perception because the US purchased former Spanish colonies PR, Cuba, Guam and the Philippines. In reality, the acquired territories are in occupation. Cuba got the independence shortly thereafter. The Philippines got the same status as PR as a commonwealth territory for 50 years and decided to secede after the world war II. Guam and PR remain as territory. At least PR has a better status than Guam having the option to go either way.

Don't you know you have another chance of referendum on the same day with presidential election? Polls among PR residents however is below 50% support for statehood. So, don't blame the US.
