Vey similar citations one could find with any semi-successful military leader 🤣 Do you really think you could accomplish anything if you do not believe you could do it ?

Belief in victory, very strange thing indeed. Ludicrous idea only AH could have 😁😆

@hq3473 Really ? 😁 An when was that point when belief in German victory became totally ludicrous, as opposed to plausible 😁 In reality, many people considered German war against Poland, France and Britain in 1939 as totally ludicrous.

@ He did not. He simply understood that without victory they will be only talking about unconditional surrender.

@hq3473 Why would it be Kursk specifically ? There were still chances for stalemate and negotiated deal with USSR even after Kursk.

@610jrod Negotiated peace would be some kind of victory, and they had jet fighters coming into operational service, so there was still hope for that part.

@colinhunt4057 That is not given. Western Allies did have certain low level contacts with Germans (Allen Dulles) , and had Germans did have some success on battlefield, stance on unconditional surrender may have changed. At least Germans were hoping for that. As for jets, had they have been more successful, they would have defended German synthetic fuel industry. Which in turn would have allowed for more fuel. It is easy to mock Germans in retrospect, but back then no one was completely sure how would war end.

@urgadurga Well, he was a subject 🤪

@colinhunt4057 Germans had atrocious logistic in 1939/40, yet they somehow managed to achieve stunning victories. As I said before, no one during WW2 was convinced that Germans were certain to lose, especially not in 1943. Even in late 1944 there were plans for continued fighting in 1946 (rapid development and production of IS-3 being one such example). As for food production in German occupied territories, yes, it was insufficient, but Germans were not starving. Guess who was ;)

@memeboi6017 Caesar went into unknown land with numerically inferior forces . And you think he was not crazy 😁😆
1
@colinhunt4057 Well, not. Caesar did not have effective supply, he had to organize it himself. He did have better trained and organized troops, but Germans were counting on that when invading USSR, and actually did have that advantage early in the war. Germans were also hoping for USSR dissolving along national lines, and that too almost happened . Overall, there are many parallels between Romans and Germans, Germans were partially inspired by Romans.
