Except Poland did start WW2 in a way: they participated in occupation of Czechoslovakia in 1938, and got part of it from Germans. In fact, in 1938 British and Poles legitimatized German aggression, and refused Soviet offer to join forces against Germany. Soviet were at that time already fighting Germans in Spain. Of course, myopic Polish anti-Soviet policies cost them dearly later.

How does one ignore Polish participation in dismemberment of Czechoslovakia ?

Soviet did not enter Poland, they entered Western Ukraine and Belarus, lands east of Curzon Line. This territory was illegally occupied by Poland in 1921 due to USSR weakness at the time.

@dusk6159 USSR in twenties did not attack Poland. They were fighting for survival against other factions in civil war, and foreign intervention. Poles, on the other hand, not being content with their ethnic lands, attempted land grab in Ukraine and Belarus. Thus they came into collision with USSR. Overall, Soviet leadership was never against independence of Poland, not even in 1945 under Stalin. They just wanted Poland out of lands that belong to others.

Actually, Britain enabled German aggression by allowing occupation of Czechoslovakia (alongside Poles). Soviets were willing to go to war against Germans in 1938. In fact, their troops already clashed in Spain.

@janys6502 Treaties under duress are illegal.

@janys6502 It was. USSR was weak, attacked from all sides and embroiled in civil war. Thus they did what they had to do. As for Baltic states, they were for a long time part of Russian Empire. Thus, their independence from USSR (as a successor of Russian Empire) is somewhat suspicious. Nevertheless, I'm not claiming that USSR occupation of them was entirely legal.

Poles actually started war themselves: in 1938 they participated in German occupation of Czechoslovakia and got part of it themselves. They also refused (alongside British) Soviet call to stop Germans in 1938. Poland to the last moment hoped for alliance with Germany against USSR. Of course, such policies did cost them dearly.
