@sorsocksfake Well, you can't :) If the people you want to recruit would take first opportunity to turn their weapons against you, or at least flee, then recruiting them is not possible. Having large population is advantageous, but if you need armed guards to constantly keep order among that population, that advantage turns into the weakness. On the other hand, USSR had even less spare people for agriculture, and starvation in Soviet Union during WW2 was real, even far from front lines. Lend Lease did not help, because Lend Lease was not about the food. Due to limited shipping capability it mostly consisted of weapons, vehicles, parts and similar technical stuff. Yet, despite all these hardships, majority of Soviet population supported Soviet war effort. Because they knew it was a fight for survival.

@sorsocksfake It is not communist, capitalist or national-socialist textbook, it is a simple truth. As you said yourself, French (in general) would not fight for the Germans, neither would Poles, Czech etc ... There were few nations that would (Finns, Romanians, Hungarians, Croats ... ) but their contributions was what it was. And as you said yourself, French (and others) were reluctant to work for the Germans, so somebody had to force them, which also requires troops even if not top quality. Net result : as USSR recovered from initial shock, their army became larger then German. Consequently, Germans lost initiative and Red Army started pushing them back. On the other hand, food situation in USSR was worse because Germans had better land and more people for agriculture. But in the end Soviet people somehow overcome these difficulties and won.
