"Voluntary associations" would in reality turn into private armies and gangs. You "voluntarily" pay the protection racket, otherwise you are fair game for everyone.

Your franchise was not a mini-state, because you could not use the force of arms. As soon as those restrictions are lifted you would get corporate armies with nothing to restrict them, and nothing to prevent them from attacking anyone who is not the part of corporation.
2
These so-called "voluntary governments" would in reality turn into corporate armies, or worse local mafias enforcing their own "laws" . Think something like Cyberpunk 2077. If you have the money (or whatever is used as currency) you would pay protection racket. Otherwise, your organs would be for sale 😁😆

@MrCher2 Forbidden by whom ? 😁 If an armed gang comes to a neighborhood, very few will be willing to stand up. Look what happened during BLM riots when police refused to act on crime reports. Most people simply fled, fending for themselves.

@Somberdemure Threat of violence (by the state, tribe, local gang ...) existed since time immemorial . No political system would change that, since is the part of the nature in a harsh world with finite resources.

@Somberdemure We are programmable, but much of the programing was done by nature (or God if you will) before we were even born 😁 As dog has certain instincts that could not be changed by training, so do humans.

Completely true. Your "laws" and your ethnic would not be binding to other organizations. There could exist "voluntary army" that would harvest organs from anyone they could. Another one would expect sexual favors. Etc ... In reality you would have corporate and private armies, and gangs.

@robertmichel9904 You need firepower. And if that organization has decent firepower (many gangs do) , then you are going to be overwhelmed. Thus, you would need to pay protection racket to some private army, or you going to get screwed. If you can, try playing Cyberpunk 2077. Pretty decent display of unbridled capitalism and general anarchy.

@robertmichel9904 There is nothing fictional about various territories being without central government in certain periods. In all of these cases various "organizations" (gangs, private armies, religious movements ...) terrorized local population which was either defenseless, or they organized their own militias to finally establish central government of some sort. Usual pattern would be anarchy - chaos- gangs- dictatorship.

There is no Cospera, it is Cospaia (Republic of Cospaia) . It was a microstate, but still a state, buffer zone and vasal of Papal States. It did not have official taxes, but it did have communal fees ,and those failing to pay them would be expelled. Mostly existed because larger neighbors guaranteed its "independence" As for Ireland, which you also mentioned in 17th century, coincidently it was a period of long and bloody civil wars 😄
1
@robertmichel9904 Partially agree. Nevertheless, it was the time of rampaging armies, gangs and general lawlessness . Not the time of some mythical anarcho-capitalist communes.
1
@robertmichel9904 It does invalidate your point. Cospaia was essentially a puppet state, it had central authority, even if it was just a village council. For the defense they relied on Papal States. And yes, you had to pay some kind of tax, as nothing is free in this world. For Ireland, like it or not, it was a time of war and great loss of life . Not some mythical anarcho-capitalist paradise.
1
@robertmichel9904 No, they were fully independent state consisting of one village, and were never invaded by no one 😆😁 Dude, you did not know proper name of this "state" until I told you. This was basically puppet state of Papal States, created so they could grow tobacco which was otherwise banned by popes. As such they had monopoly, but they would pay tariffs when exporting to nearby states.
