  1. Hoffman's diary was always suspicious, because it was too stereotypical. From German superiority, then gradual disillusion and in the end -despair. All conveniently rolled into one package to be used as crude Soviet propaganda. Anyway, I doubt that Hoffman even existed, someone would dig up something about him by now (birth place, parents, military record ...)
