  7.  @karenishness1  I believe a minor should be held in a juvenile facility until they are 18. Required to continue their education. Then be moved to a prison in a separate wing we set aside for people who age out of juvenile facilities all over the country. One separate from older inmates. They stay there until they are 21. They are not to share rooms. Then they serve the rest of their sentence in a minimum security prison if they are non-violent while they are in a juvenile facility. For the ones who are violent they should be sent to a secure facility and be denied parole and made to serve their entire sentence. Those who are non-violent should be allowed parole. That way they remain in the care of the prison system and are allowed to go to a halfway house. A halfway house is under prison control. Helps them get a job. Helps them learn to live in society. Has a curfew and is able to monitor their progress adapting back into society. Requires drug screening. They would also still have access to mental health facilities. If they violate the terms of their parole then they are returned to the prison system to serve the remainder of their sentence. This way they have incentive to want to integrate back into society. They have a reason to study and better themselves. They have a reason to work on becoming non-violent. This would also serve to separate the violent aggressive children from the ones who committed a one off crime. This would determine who would be a repeat offender and who would not. However it still our job to protect them while they are in our custody. I don't belive an adult prison is an adequate place for a teenager of only 18 years. 18 may be a legal adult but it is by no means an adult who can defend himself in a prison environment. Especially in the general population. Then we must consider people like Cruz the school shooter. He even attacked a prison guard who was sitting down not even talking to him. He would be considered violent. He would still be housed separately until he was at least 21. I hope this answers your questions.
