  1. Our extended family farmed. So we bought a quarter of a pig or cow, cut it up, and canned,or cured and smoked, or froze the meats. My Dad had purchased a small freezer that had been in an ice cream store. We also always had a large garden. Fresh veggies in summer. A root cellar stored potatoes, apples, and winter squash.
