Most cultures in the world have valued “tradition” over “progress”. Maybe, we really NEED both cultural views? Without trying to suggest one is better than another, it helps to explain why some cultures stood virtually motionless for thousands of years, and others changed rapidly. When change resulted in newer, better technology, cultures generally changed further afield, and much more rapidly.
I’ve read that, in the final analysis, the best measure of a culture is how well it serves its constituencies. And that makes sense. It is obvious that a primitive, stone age culture did serve the people well - they survived and thrived in brutally survival conditions - until the primitive culture bumped up against a more technologically advanced culture. Then, the more primitive culture suffered worse than the modern culture. Usually, to the point of destruction - or total defeat.
