The REAL lesson here, is that we have some choices. We didn’t used to have the many choices that we have now. Any one of nearly any other of the tents out there are pretty darned nice. When we have to use small comparison points between Exhibit A and Exhibit B, we are in a privileged group. Just my thoughts. But, they’re pretty much true. Courtesy of Half Vast Flying

As an elementary school student, I was taught that the Navajo had built the pueblos. As an adult, I learned that the pueblos were vacant hundreds of years before the Navajo found them. Interesting. Courtesy of Half Vast Flying

You did a well thought out design, and additions of simple fasteners. And the pack sack makes sense too. Altogether a well thought out piece of gear. Kudos to your wife for the expert work. Lesson here: a trustworthy partner is a highly valued part of the team. I value trust as the MOST IMPORTANT characteristic. Otherwise, you will have to (1) spend a lot if time and attention to guard yourself and all enterprises. And/or (2) jettison that person and recruit (and perhaps have to train) a different partner. The Buddy System, where you look out for each other, improves both the productivity and survivability for both people. As a friend of mine used to say, “It’s only critical.” Courtesy Half Vast Flying

Foods: The Knoor foods have been a standby for me for over 50 years. Their “Spring Garden Soup” mix, tossed in with rice provides welcome pilaf, even in tough going. Courtesy of Half Vast Flying

I like your methodical, analytical approach to situations. You narrow the fields of examination down to a very few options, all of which are rational and good. Thanks. I like the advice that you offer. (But - like any self respecting maverick - I still make my own choices. It used to irk my Dad.) Courtesy of Half Vast Flying

G’day, Osc4r15. I agree with you about tea. I always take 4-6 varieties camping. I lay the Ziplock baggie on a picnic table so the guys can have their choices. Tea somehow both relaxes me, and picks me up too. Much simpler than toggling around with gear to make coffee. I have peppermint in a flower garden, and clip it off every week or so, dry it, and make some of my tea from that. Nice. Courtesy of Half Vast Flying

When the match safe is not in camp or your pocket, loosening the cover lets the O ring expand and refresh some. This extends its life, and strengthens the effectiveness. Courtesy of Half Vast Flying

Question: What are the current, modern equivalents of the squash and beans that they raised? Thank you. Courtesy of Half Vast Flying

No written history to create a record of this. And, the current biblical record bears no mention of it. Scientific activity brought us additional knowledge. We are a curious animal form. Courtesy of Half Vast Flying

All of the Opinel knives of standard size lock open. I’m quite surprised that the tiny one doesn’t lock. Just turn the little barrel at the hinge point. Swiss army knives were a great disappointment to me. I’ve had two or three of them; all were just a toy gadget. Darn. I have one of your survival knives, and use it often. CHAIR: Yes, I take a chair. A chair has a seat at normal chair height. I don’t use chairs that are kindergartener height. Period. And it has a back, so it isn’t a stool. Roll-A-Chair sells nice ones that don’t remind you of where the teacher would sit you when attending a teacher conference for your small child. UGH!!! Courtesy of Half Vast Flying

Truth 1 about weapons: Nothing is a weapon, until it has been used as a weapon. Truth 2 about weapons: Everything is a potential weapon. Includes’ sticks, stones, wooden pencils, pens, tight rolls of paper, bright lights, clothing, etc, etc. Courtesy of Half Vast Flying

@DavidHoffmanFilmmaker G’day, David. Looked for date of origin, but missed it. Thanks. I had experienced similar thoughts when our unit went to Nam in 65. It didn’t take but just 2-3 weeks of watching the Viet Namese to disabuse me of that notion. I observed very little interest on their part to resist or fight. The toilet needed to be flushed.
