It's funny, but the people who hate Christianity the most often have alot of reverence for the other Abrahamic theologies... really makes you think.

@CMCAdvanced I started as an anti-thiest before discovering Tolkien and Lewis. Tolkien really helped me understand the bigger story, and researching the mythologies he was inspired by lead me to the conclusion that Europeans sort of hid their ancient mythology inside of an update to Judaism. It made me like Christianity more.

@MeanBeanComedy well. Let's take the concept of 'Hell'. It doesn't seem to really exist in Judaism, however the name comes from the Norse 'Hel' (one of Loki's children). The Christian Hell also contains a place called 'Tartarus' which comes, not from Judaism, but Greek Myth. There are also some similarities between Jesus' Crucifixion and Odin's hanging on the world tree, and some similar elements between the death of Baldur and Jesus, the crown of thorns for instance (Baldur's only weakness was mistletoe). Then we have the still very pagan seasonal festivals, Easter and Christmas, which maintain much of their original celebration traditions and are found nowhere in Judaism. The idea that Christianity was just a second chapter of Judaism is questionable. I also find it interesting that European Christians decided to make Patron Saints of smaller concepts, like travel and agricultural. Which seems pretty rooted in the ethos of traditional European myth rather than anything out of Judaism. In short I think European Mytholgy/Christianity is more accurate than Judeo-Christian.
