  3. Mexicans had no connection to the US SW 150 years ago. Migration began approx 1880s with US westward movement, they established border towns in the desert wilderness along with Americans. This was also during US government subjugation of unconquered dangerous SW tribes at the time as Navaho, Comanche, Apache, Chumash, etc. Then the 1910 Mexican Revolution, the USA a haven for Mexicans. Looking only to the north since. Not to their south--parts of Central America which was briefly claimed by Mexico, same as the SW. SW USA tribes never knew themselves as Mexican before the 1800s or anytime since.
