  3. The Manhattan project would have bankrupt most countries even in peacetime . The US was the only country with the resources that could fight two wars (Europe /Japan) as it developed the A-Bomb. The other A-Bomb projects looked like part time hobbies compared to the 1940s 2 Billion dollar Manhattan Project in scale. The Russians needed 4 years of peace time with spys to be the next country to build a bomb.

  32.  Hal 9000  I hope India ,China or Russia return to the moon (The US has no interest). The population of the earth was 3.8 billion in 1972 ,today its 7.7 billion. That means half the world never witness the last moon landing , so to many people (like me) it will be a brand new thing. Even the today's Space Station astronauts were not old enough to witness a moon landing.

  43. Another Factor in the Battle of Britain. 100% of the fighting was in British airspace. A trained shot down German Pilot was a POW and out of the war. A trained RAF pilot shot down was back in the air later that afternoon.

  45. I think once the US built the A-Bomb the Germans would have lost even if they were winning or no Merlin was ever invented. The bomber and escorts transporting the Bomb would just use Pratt & Whitney's double wasps instead of Merlins.
