It was a clone of the Bismarck , they were smaller than the American Iowa class battleships also. The Dakota class also had larger 16" guns .

Nov 1944 why was the ship still a priority ? It's just 5 months before the German surrender and by then the Russians were storming over Germany and did not need outside military supplies any longer. I'm amazed the Germans had fuel for the fighter at that stage of the war.

The ship was sank in the fall of 1944 only 5 months before Germany's surrender. The Germans were retreating everywhere and the Russians were already in Germany. The Russian did not even need outside supplies by then.

D-Day was not to beat the Germans it was so the Russian would not take all of western Europe like they did with the east.. The Russian winning over Germany was a forgone conclusion in 1944 even if the US and Britain packed it in and stayed home.

All I know is when you watch WW@ footage the British are in Jeeps, Sherman's and jumping out of and being supplied by C-47 cargo planes. Don't mention it.

We built 30 aircraft carries and 12 larger battleships by the time it took you sink the Tirpitz.

At the last year of the war the Russians did not rely on northern convoys aid from the allies. Their production of war materials was greater than Germany's at that point. I was just saying the Russians were storming the outskirts of Berlin by Nov 1944 and no navy strategy was interfering with that outcome.

In late 1944 it was clear the Russian advance to steam roll over Germany was unstoppable. D-Day was more to get some of western Europe before the Russian went all the way to France. When Stalin liberates a country he does not give it back and Britain and the US knew it.
