Scatter bombing a city full of civilians at night with incendiary fire starting bombs would have been a great story around the dinner table. The US day raids at least gave a attempt to hit a military target in the city.

WTF 7:46 they gave their highest medal the (Victoria Cross) to a guy for doing one air raid? There will be a thousand more and bigger air raids to come with crews doing over 40 missions without a mention. That is like the US handing out the (Medal of Honor) to a fighter pilot for shooting down a enemy plane.

Britain declared war on Germany for invading west Poland. At the end of the war our ally Stalin took all of Poland and eastern Europe. Talk about mission fail.

Scatter bombing a city full of civilians at night with incendiary fire starting bombs with no regard to hit a military target at all was heroic? If you say so. 70 years later with hindsight not so much.

Nicholas Ovel Did Americans back then really think Germany a country of only 70 million people were going to sail over the Atlantic and D-Day New York and swipe across to LA and take over America?

@rollosnook So the daylight 8th USAF should have had a VC after every mission because it was daytime?

@MakerInMotion I seen the Canadian one fly a few times.

True Fire bombing civilians from 20,000 feet at night , you do not see the gore just the nice light show.

@gwtpictgwtpict4214 So they never tested the preproduction engines to see if it catch on fire after a 1000 mile flight? They just flew it around the airfield one or twice and said it's good to go for mass production?

And that is flying at night to avoid enemy fighters and gound AA guns. What did the US 8th air force lose in daytime raids where everybody can see them?

@Frserthegreenengine Dresden was just a refugee city with no military value. Why else did they not bomb it throughout the entire war until the last two months of the war beforehand? The Russians were almost at Berlin far to the north when they decided to fire bomb the civilians taking refuge in Dresden.
