  1. This will be decided by Who can not keep up longest not battlefield victories. The 1979-1989 invasion of Afghanistan proved that. Russia just went broke and could not keep it up forever like people defending their homeland will.

  2.  @mutantpig4218  But the Russian invasion of Afghanistan was the largest in scale. Russia lost 15,000 people in 10 years. The US lost 2,300 in 20 years. The US never had more than 3,000 stationed in Afghanistan at one time , the Russians had 100,000 in the country.

  5.  @mutantpig4218  Look up The Committee of Soldiers’ Mothers of Russia (CSMR) They helped pressure the return of 180,000 soldiers in 1989 . The CSMR had been horrified by what they saw and learned about conditions in the armed forces: the regular beatings, abuse and humiliations, the lack of food or other necessities, the effective slavery imposed in the ‘construction’ battalions, which comprised about 30 per cent of the military workforce. Their demands were for a thorough reform of military structures, reform of the armed forces on a democratic basis, an end to forced labour in the construction battalions, demilitarisation on the justice system, the establishment of effective civil control over the military and legislation to provide for an alternative civil service. Also Russia unlike the US cannot financially afford invasions and went broke in Afghanistan.
