A job that can as easily go to Vietnam, South America or Mexico with cheap labour. North America is truly self sufficient. Name a Raw Material they need to import?

The Carolinas has one of the largest lithium deposits in the world. https://pubs.usgs.gov/bul/1027g/report.pdf Canada also produces it. Name something North America would have to import? When you have two equal size country and one needs resources for 1.4 billion people and the other for 327 million who will win the long game?

  30.  @annoyedaussie3942  Unlike Oil which is abundant enough to run all the 1.4 billion cars on earth and many many countries produce oil , lithium is a much rarer resources. Even the entire would supply will never come close to getting 1.4 billion cars on the road. Oil/Coal is the only resource in quantity that can run a planet with 7.9 billion people and always growing. Unfortunately they are both also the dirtiest.

Imagine just since 2017 the population of China added almost the population of England and more than the entire population of Canada. How long can that go on?

I read a journal where they said for the entire earth to live at middle class standards the earth has the resources to maintain 3 billion people.   40.  @frankartanis1290  The number of cars in China in 2015 surpassed 340 million. While that is a large number, it still represents only 0.24 car per Chinese, far shy of the 0.89 car per American.
