  1. After tiling the backsplash & lower walls in my kitchen, people said "Wow!" The work looked better than usually seen. But they couldn't explain why. 🤔? I was very flattered. Esp since the tile was just the plain cheap white subway stuff; nothing special. The secret was offsetting the vertical grout lines by 3/4 of an inch. Vs having the lines running perfectly centered above & below each tile. Which is typical & "proper" installation. So, the end result was clean, neat & orderly looking. But, the overall effect also looked softer & less cold & rigid than usual tile work. A very simple visual trick that matters.
