  1. On radar, the helicopter banked left & into the path of the approaching plane. However, just prior, the plane had been redirected to land on a different runway by the ATC tower. This might be what caused the accident; the copter pilot unaware of the plane's last minute course change. (But, the tower seemed a little slow to warn the helicopter about the approaching plane until it was too late. The tower controller also asked the helicopter pilot if he could "see" the plane approaching. Which suggests a visual reference request vs. use of instrument radar feedback. This seems odd, & maybe risky, because it was nighttime & dark. Visual references are allowed at night when pilots need to use airport runway lights for landing guidance. But trusting pilot eyesight to see quickly approaching aircraft lights? Planes flying a few hundred feet above a city horizon full of bright lights? IDK. Maybe the visual request was the quickest warning option at that split-second moment? )
