The lumber market is often completely nutso - today prices are sky-high, next month you can't give the stuff away. Luckily YOU could harvest & mill trees on an as-needed job basis & make money. Big lumber mills don't have that luxury. They process massive volumes of timber & gamble that the market covers their costs later. (Commodity futures.)
