  1. Reality vs, "What we were taught in school." Right or wrong, young people are going to be further disappointed that life is not about free giveaways. The corporation paid for these items & are free to do what they like with them. Because, donating anything you paid for & own is a free-will act. And not a mandatory requirement by law. (Unless something has changed?) And yes, I think it's kind to donate & be resourceful vs. toss, when it's safe to do it. Eg food, clothing, household goods. But I would never expect or demand anyone else do it, or else! Because, unfortunately, that same accusatory demanding finger could turn on you one day.)
