You sound unfamiliar with Philly. “Brewerytown” there is not “the ghetto.” Actually, the white yuppies there have been denigrated for the “gentrification” of the neighborhood. Second, most of those “papi” stores/ bodegas are family-owned. They generally employ only their own relatives to work for them. Many Latino immigrants economically start at the bottom and work their way up. Try going to the parking lots at 7:00 am where they congregate to be chosen for day labor under the table. Go yell at them to get a GED and get a real job. Go to the mushroom fields in Chester County and tell them to get a “respectable” job. They’re safer in the Philly “ghetto” than in the gang-infested streets of the Dominican Republic or Honduras. This murder smacks of a personal issue. There’s no sign of a robbery or shoplifting. The store had a gun in a fruit box in the store room or whatever but dude wasn’t carrying it and didn’t have time to go get it.
